Escape
Most of the belay spots are festooned with slings, etc.; this
is a route that people bail off of frequently. I found two 60
m rappel ropes jammed near the base of N. Chimney, the remnants
of an epic middle-of-the-night-in-the-rain rappel escape down
the chimney. It seems unlikely that you would ever need more than
just slings to retreat from this route unless you were off route.
From the info we got it was not clear if you could reach Broadway
if you kept rappelling straight down from the bottom of the big
dihedrals, but it sounded like some people had gotten there by
rapping diagonally south (left as you face the wall) to anchors
on the Yellow Wall, then down. Best check with the rangers. Once
on Broadway, rap down the Crack of Delight rap route (see below),
not down North Chimney.
