This is one of the 90-some mines located in the Mt. Shipler area. Miners in the area were searching for high-grade silver ore, but found little of good quality. This small bore is located near the base of Kawuneeche Valley. Most bores have since been filled in by the National Park Service, for safety reasons. The sign shows hikers some of the dangers found in abandoned mines, including falls, cave-ins, discarded explosives, and so on.
