Dianne, Rhonda and I attempted Tyndall Glacier (between Hallett and Flattop) in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Nymph Lake
Glacier Gorge
Dream Lake, Hallett on the left, Flattop on the right
Emerald Lake and Hallett Peak
Rhonda ice-axing above Emerald and Dream lakes
Pool of Jade - beautiful spot, on many levels!
Our objective - Tyndall Glacier. We tried to head up the right side
On the moraine
Dianne's first crampon experience, and she did AWESOME!
The left is quite steep - too rich for us
Rhonda heading up
Weather came in so we bailed halfway up the glacier to a boulder/scree slope that gave reasonably easy access to the summit of Flattop. A new route? Hmmm...
Looking down Tyndall Gorge, the tower on the left is the 3rd buttress of the north face of Hallett
Hiking down Flattop Mt Trail, naturally in clear weather. Oh well. It looked nasty again by the time we drove out.
Marmots asking for handouts
Pano image of the entire north face of Hallett, plus the glacier
